Can we refer to an interpreter and a translator indistinctly as the same person?

Even though both professionals share certain disciplines, we cannot confuse a translator with an interpreter. The translator is the professional who expresses in a language what is written in another language, while an interpreter is the professional who translates orally from one language into another.
