In order to guarantee the excellence of the final product, we apply a quality translation process that consists of three stages:
Throughout the whole translation process, a smooth communication with our clients is very important, so that the final product satisfies each of their particular needs.
What does “translation” imply?
In its literal sense, “translate” means reflecting in the target language what is expressed in the source language. However, the translation process implies much more than that. The professional translator faces the challenge of translating not only the meaning conveyed by the text itself, but also the intention of the author. In order to do that, it is very important that the translator recognizes the characteristics of the target reader, the cultural background of the writer and the future readers, the place where the translated text will be used, among others.
Every translation is assigned to professional translators who read the source text carefully before beginning with the translation itself. Regardless of the subject of the text and the specific knowledge the translator has about such subject matter, a thorough research on terminology and background is made. Therefore, the translator consults dictionaries, encyclopedias, style guides, grammar manuals, glossaries and even experts on the area.
Once the first draft is finished, the translator reads the whole text and makes all the necessary adjustments to achieve an accurate translation.
What does “editing” imply?
In order to ensure its quality, each translation goes through an editing stage. The editor guarantees that the translation is absolutely faithful to the source text and that it meets the requirements established by the client.
The editing process begins with a word-for-word comparison of the source text and the target text in order to find missing words and mistakes related to meaning, spelling, punctuation, usage and choice of vocabulary and consistency of the text, among others. In this stage, the format of the document is checked and any other preference specified by the client in advance is implemented.
What does “proofreading” imply?
The proofreading is the final stage through which the translation goes before reaching the clients’ hands. The aim of this stage is to guarantee that there are no mistakes related to spelling, grammar or style and that the text sounds natural, that reads as if it was originally written in the target language.
This last stage is vital to close the translation process. It allows us to guarantee our clients that they will receive a faithful, accurate, and correct translation.
