Editing and Proofreading
Every text, regardless of its type and the sphere where it will be shared, is a “calling card” for the writer; it is the first impression the audience receives. A careful text reflects the writers’ commitment towards what they write and towards the audience, who is given the possibility to enjoy a text that is properly written.
But the person who produces a text does not always have enough technical and grammatical knowledge in order to detect and/or solve the problems that may arise in such text. Hence, even though the writer may take great care, the result of his/her work may be a text full of mistakes of different nature, which could be a determining factor for his/her image and even fail to transmit the desired message successfully.
For that reason, Palabras del Plata has a team of editors and proofreaders ideally suited to assist its clients in the checking stage of their final text (whether it is a novel, a thesis, a manual, an agreement, a movie or TV script, a Web page, etcetera), taking into account different aspects:
- Style: clarity, coherence, redundancies, ambiguities, repetitions, semantic and conceptual accuracy, use of literary devices, register, etc.
- Grammar and syntax: gender and number agreement, subordination, verb conjugation, prepositions, spelling, punctuation, use of capital letters, typography, indentation, double spaces, etcetera.
When we send the edited text to the client, we also send a detailed analysis where we mention the positive and negative aspects of the text and, what is more important, we give the client all the necessary suggestions and indications to be able to improve his/her future texts.
We edit and proofread mainly texts in English and Spanish, but do not hesitate to enquire about other languages, since we work with an important network of colleagues who specialize in other languages.
